Bring Your Own Brain: Encouraging Critical Thinking among 21st Century Learners
The ubiquity of cell phones and search engines has made our students less reliant on their brains for basic, everyday information: appointments, directions, phone numbers, birthdays, etc. They are also more apt to second guess what they already know; they look things up instead of trusting their brains. In this session, CoryAnne Harrigan will model an activity designed to get students offline and on topic by tapping into their cumulative knowledge. Participants will work together to identify discipline-appropriate critical thinking exercises and strategies to use in their own classes.
Faculty Development is again offering a series of workshops during Iowa Private College Week. The sessions are offered so they will not conflict with times faculty meet with prospective students. All faculty – full-time, part-time, and brand new – are invited to attend. Please RSVP to email@example.com.
