About this Event
The Vivo Chamber Players is a new ensemble comprised of Simpson music faculty and area musicians interested in performing chamber music. In its debut recital, Vivo will perform Janacek's Idyll Suite and Copland's Appalachian Spring.
The Idyll Suite for strings is a Romantic composition exhibiting the influences of Czech and Moravian folk music. Its soaring and interweaving melodies are reminiscent of those of Antonin Dvorak, a mentor to Janacek.
The Appalachian Spring is the original ballet music scored for thirteen players as commissioned by famed choreographer and dancer Martha Graham. This ballet with "an American theme" was debuted at the Library of Congress in 1944 with Graham dancing the lead role.
