About this Event
In this presentation, Ph.D. Candidate, Heider Tun, will discuss our efforts to build a partnership between a Predominately White Institution (PWI)-- The University of Minnesota--and three Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)-- Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Howard University. The College of Liberal Arts of the University of Minnesota Twin-Cities awarded a Fall 2019-Sprint 2021 Interdisciplinary Collaborative Workshop grant to faculty members in the Departments of History, African & African American Studies, Sociology, and Political Science to continue the partnership with Spelman, Morehouse, and Howard by focusing on public scholarship, which has been a central commitment of our four institutions for decades. Tun's presentation will highlight some of the challenges that emerged from the current situation of the pandemic and movements for social change, as well as our strategies to make this collaboration within our institutions feasible, including the development of social media and digital content of our communities of BIPOC scholars, students, and activists. This partnership is a long-term initiative to work towards Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on our campuses and in our communities.
This session will also be offered on Friday, April 23.
