Vasilii V. Dvoinev is an associate professor of sociology in the Department of Sociology, Philosophy and Youth Socialization and Head of Sociological Research Laboratory at Smolensk State University (Smolensk, Russia). Currently he holds a position of Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at Drake University in the Department for the Study of Culture and Society.
His research concerns the environmental attitudes and concerns of urban communities. As a Fulbright-Kennan Institute Research Scholar at Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars in 2014 he studied the American approaches to measure environmental concern of individuals and groups. He has published articles in Russian and Ukrainian academic journals, as well as recent book chapters in Internationales Kulturmanagement. Zur kulturellen Infra- und Angebotsstruktur der Städte Hagen und Smolensk (ed. by Th. Heinze und L. Bertels., Springer VS, 2016), which consider transformations of urban space and cultural practices of urban population. His current research examines the articulation of environmental problematic in Russian and American local and regional newspapers.
