A class in which all students feel included does not happen just by chance. It starts with the syllabus and the first day of class. In this session, Carolyn Dallinger will offer recommendations of course policies and course activities to start class off on the right foot.
Responding to Stereotypes and Prejudice in the Classroom, Rm. 231
What do you do when someone makes a racist, sexist, or homophobic remark in the classroom? Such comments can be so shocking that instructors often have trouble determining how to respond. In this session, you’ll have the opportunity to practice responding to a variety of situations involving stereotypes and prejudice. In addition, Patti Woodward-Young will facilitate a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of various responses.
Responding to Student Writing, Rm. 233 -
Many students have trouble writing the high-quality academic prose we want our students to use. In this session, Tricia Calkins will offer guidelines for responding to student writing in ways that help students make meaningful improvements and that are respectful of students' cultural backgrounds and personal situations.

In this session, Manda Gibson will offer tips to help you make your course site look attractive and organized, share resources (e.g., links, documents, and videos), create assignments, and grant extensions to individual students on assignments and quizzes.
