Theatre Simpson presents Festival of Short Plays: Theatre of Politics and Protest

Annual production of short plays produced by senior theatre majors.

Plays can make us laugh; they can make us cry.  While doing these things, plays can also make us contemplate our world. They can reinforce the status quo, and they can serve to cause us to reexamine our perceptions of gender, economics, war, language and culture…of anything that we thought we knew.  Play-going is a way to witness our world through the eyes of another and to consider our understanding of and our place in it.

In many ways, all plays are political and by long tradition, many plays are also subversive, in that they often expose some perception of an imbalance of power. If plays are not overt artifacts of protest, then, at their core, most contain some germ of inequity as the motivating force for their action.
