Dr. Luther S. Williams has provided leadership and dedication to creating opportunities for minorities in the sciences. He has served prominently as the Assistant Director of the National Science Foundation and Chair of the White House Biotechnology Coordinating Committee. His research career provided foundational insights into the properties and cellular regulation aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases.

Dr. Williams will receive the 2019 George Washington Carver Medal as part of the annual World Food Prize summit.

Right in our backyard, the annual World Food Prize hosted in Des Moines is a week-long set of events drawing over 1,000 participants from over 50 countries and is the foremost international honor recognizing achievements in improving the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world.
